The Rule of 7: Testing Your Commitment to Diversity, Equity, & Inclusion
One challenge that I have seen, however, is that too often, people with whom I interact ask me what books they need to read or what terminology they need to adopt in order to not make a mistake and be called out for being racist, homophobic, etc. While the concern is understandable, this is not the way to achieve true diversity, equity, and inclusion and definitely not a way to become antiracist. I propose The Rule of 7.

Alabama House passes bill restricting DEI initiatives, stirs debate on free speech
Rafferty said that DEI “doesn’t seek to divide” but to bring people together “regardless of our myriad differences to the bounty, to experience the freedom our Constitution guarantees us.”
“We cannot celebrate and honor triumph without first reckoning with the tragic consequences of our history. Like I said, that is going to be uncomfortable, and it should be. But at the end of the day, we cannot experience the light of truth without reckoning with the dark of our past,” he said.

Anti-DEI Petition Sparks Conflict at National Derm Meeting
A resolution to eliminate diversity efforts at the American Academy of Dermatology (AAD) has sparked fierce controversy on the eve of the group's annual conference in San Diego.
The petition, introduced by East Syracuse, New York, dermatologist Brian Raphael, MD, calls on the academy to end all of its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs, including scholarships and mentoring.
It portrays DEI work, "while well-intentioned," as evolving into a corrosive political movement that quells free speech and "is seen to foster division instead of unity."
